Celebri-tea fans can't get enough!
2nd September 2009
If you thought the A List's drinking habits revolved around champagne and cocktails, think again! Alex Fullerton finds that our favourite stars are more likely to be spotted sipping a delicious cup of tea...
It could be dismissed as a fashion fad but a slew of stars have been spotted sipping tea - we're putting it down to excellent taste! While trends in flavoured tea blends vary, the world's favourite drink is still the choice of many for that perfect pick-me-up. Considering all the health-giving properties found in an average cup tea is the ideal drink for keeping these celebs' busy bodies in excellent condition!
It's seems that everyone's favourite Friend, Jennifer Aniston, has a favourite drink... Guess what? It's tea!
The A List actress has been spotted on the New York set of The Baster with a refreshing iced tea in hand. Iced tea is an ideal drink during the Summer months so her choice makes seasonal sense - but it's not the first time Jen has been linked to tea. Since splitting from Brad Pitt, gossip fans has kept a close eye on Jen's love life - particularly her rumoured romances with Vince Vaughan and, most recently, new Scots star Gerard Butler. But, instead of meeting over dinner, lunch or even breakfast, it's been revealed that Jen's preferred place to date was over afternoon tea!
You might not have a date planned with one of Hollywood's hottest hunks, but why not go for tea on your next romantic rendevouz? Afternoon tea is an ideal activity for a first date. Unlike lunch there isn't the potential for embarrassment from getting spinach stuck in your teeth (the delicate sandwiches and pretty pastries served at tea-time rate low on the mess-scale!). Tea-time is also a great time of day to meet potential beaus: If they turn out to be dull you can exit easily and unobtrusively without the pressure a late night dinner date bestows...
As well as American fans, a slew of Brit stars love their tea too…
During interviews to promote The Duchess, Keira Knightley cradled a mug of 'builder's tea'. It seems she's not the only English actress partial to a cup of tea. The Oscar-nominated Kristin Scott Thomas revealed that she's also "addicted" to tea admitting, "I have about eight cups of tea a day." The Tea Council recommends drinking four cups a day to absorb the optimum health benefits from the drinks' high levels of anti-oxidants so Kristin is getting more than her daily quota!
It can be tough for Brits raised on tea to find their favourite beverage when away from home. Actress Anna Friel - the Brookside soap starlet turned Hollywood heroine - recently relocated from the UK to LA to boost her career. After settling with partner David Thewlis and daughter Gracie it seemed that the next thing on her mind was finding a good cup of tea! Luckily her local market stocks PG Tips and Typhoo and the actress revealed to GMTV that "[tea] is always the first thing on my [shopping] list." And, as with most tassophiles, Anna likes her tea her way, "I drink a lot of tea so I like it in a particular way - not too strong." Anna's currently back in the UK where you can catch her on the West End Stage in Breakfast at Tiffany's.
If you're planning a trip to exotic climes but don't want to miss out on your favourite cup of tea it makes sense to pack some tea bags or loose tea. You'll be guaranteed the comfort of a perfect cuppa wherever you are in the world. But don't forget that every country has a different approach to tea drinking. Take time to experience the local tea traditions too - and keep an eye out for a forthcoming feature on tea rituals around the world on Tea.co.uk!
For songstress Lily Allen, afternoon tea at Claridges provided the perfect setting for the launch of her new jewellery range (available to buy this month). The 24-year old is renowned for her party hard antics - Lily's often snapped looking tipsy after-dark - so the elegant surroundings of the Award of Excellence-winning hotel would have provided a relaxing environment and welcome break for the singer. However, for last year's winner of The X Factor, tea is always on the menu! Singer Alexandra Burke told LK Today that she plans to concentrate on her career and is steering clear of "boyfriends" and "distractions". "[It's] cups of tea and that's it," she revealed. We can think of worse hardships than drinking tea though!
