Top Tea Places 2005

15th May 2006

Once again, The Tea Council Inspectors have spent many months travelling throughout the length and breadth of Britain inspecting tea rooms and hotels in order to recognise and award those who serve the very best tea. Our Inspectors anonymously visited over 125 tearooms and hotels assessing not only the variety and quality of the teas and food on offer but also the way in which the tea is brewed and served.

Each year, The Tea Council presents members of its prestigious Tea Guild with the highly sought accolades of Top London Afternoon Tea and Top Tea Place. In addition, a series of "Awards of Excellence" are presented to other tea rooms who have been awarded high marks in the Top Tea Place Competition.

This year, Ollerton Watermill Tea Shop in Ollerton, Nottinghamshire was awarded The Tea Council's Top Tea Place Award and The Lanesborough Hotel won the coveted Top London Afternoon Tea Award.

Top tea place 2005

The Top Tea Place Awards are celebrating their 20th Anniversary this year and Ollerton Watermill Tea Shop in Ollerton, Nottinghamshire scooped first place in the 2005 Top Tea Place awards thus making this delightful little tea room on the edge of Sherwood Forest the best in the UK.

Sisters-in-law, Kate and Ellen Mettam opened the Watermill Tea Shop in 1994 after their husbands decided to restore the old mill which dates back to 1713 and has been in the Mettam family since 1921. Kate and Ellen have proved that they are dedicated to upholding The Tea Guild’s rigorous standards for top tea making in the UK and offer their many customers exceptional service and value, passion and attention to detail. The mouth-watering and beautifully presented food, tarts, cakes and memorable scones are all lovingly homemade and help to ensure that visiting Ollerton is a truly delightful experience!
